Do
I need to be licensed in the State of Arkansas?
Arkansas Code Title 6, Chapter 51, Subchapter 601 et.
al. requires that most persons, firms, partnerships,
associations, corporations, or other form of business
organization offering training that leads to or enhances
occupational qualifications be licensed by the State
Board of Private Career Education.
Do
I qualify for exemption from Licensure in Arkansas?
There are a total of twelve(12) specific exemptions.
In order for a school to be granted exemption, it
must be shown that the school clearly and completely
meets the provisions of one (1) or more of the specific
exemptions. Refer to the "Do
I Qualify for Exemption?" section of this
website for specifics on the 12 exemptions and how
to apply for exemption.
How
often does the Board meet?
The Board meets every other month on the third Tuesday.
The meetings are either held in Little Rock or by
telephone conference. For the current Board meeting
schedule please refer to the Board
Meeting Dates section of our website.
How
long does the licensing process take?
If a complete application is received by the due date,
it will be reviewed by the Board at the following
Board meeting. In most cases, the licensing process
takes approximately 2 months.
What types of schools does the Board license?
The Arkansas State Board of Private Career Education
licenses private post-secondary schools that offer
programs that lead to or enhance a career in the State
of Arkansas or are located out of state, but are choosing
to advertise or recruit in the state of Arkansas.
How
do I obtain a license in the State of Arkansas?

What
types of fees are involved in obtaining a license?
For an original license, there is a license fee that is based on the type of license you are seeking and the highest per program tuition charged. There is a New Program of Study fee for two or more programs. There are fees for Instructor Registration and Admissions Represetatives Licenses. Once licensed, you will be sent a Student Protection Fund bill. This bill is calculated by multiplying 0.05 times the sum of the tuition for all programs. If your highest per program tuition is over $3,000, you will be required to obtain a Surety Bond. For further information on fees, please refer to the Steps on Obtaining a License.
At
what intervals are school licenses renewed?
Licenses are renewed annually.

have information due, but I'm missing a few documents.
Should I submit the information I have?
No. Wait until you have all requested information
together and then send it all at one time.
If
I cannot meet a deadline or request what should I
do?
If you cannot meet a deadline, call us at (501) 683-8000
not less than 24 hours prior to your deadline to request
an extension. In most cases, we can issue an extended
due date.
